Genie Opener Logic Board Repair: The Van Nuys Owner’s Guide

Genie opener logic board repair in Van Nuys typically costs $120-$320 installed, parts and labor quoted separately before any work begins. We stock Genie-compatible logic boards on our trucks, and most replacements are completed the same day we diagnose the failure. The way owners usually find us: the wall console works, the remote doesn’t, and the opener just clicks once and refuses to move.

The logic board is the brain inside the opener’s motor housing. When it fails, the door stops responding to inputs even though the motor, belt, and springs are fine. Van Nuys heat accelerates capacitor aging on these boards, and we see more board failures here in August and September than any other stretch of the year.

Which Genie Models This Applies To

We repair logic boards across the Genie lineup most common in Van Nuys garages: the IntelliG series, ChainMax, BeltMax, SilentMax, PowerMax, and the newer Aladdin Connect-compatible openers. If your opener was installed between 2008 and 2022, there’s a strong chance the board is the single-board design Genie used across multiple model tiers, which means the replacement part is often the same board with different firmware.

The compatibility gotcha: a Genie board from a ChainMax 1000 will not drop into a SilentMax 750, even if the plugs look identical. The board revision number printed on the corner of the PCB (a sticker marked “REV” followed by a letter and number) is what we match, not the opener model name. That revision number is how we confirm the right board before ordering or pulling one from the truck. For older screw-drive Genie units from the early 2000s, OEM boards are discontinued, and we generally recommend a quality aftermarket board with the same revision spec rather than a used OEM pull from a salvage unit that may carry the same failure point.

Servo Garage Doors Van Nuys is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Genie, but we stock and service their logic boards, along with parts for LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers.

Signs Your Genie Opener Logic Board Is Failing

Signs Your Genie Opener Logic Board Is Failing
  • The opener clicks once but the door doesn’t move. This is the classic failed-relay symptom on the board. The motor gets a start signal, the relay closes, and nothing happens because the secondary circuit that holds the relay open has failed.
  • Remotes and keypad stopped working at the same time. This points to the receiver circuit on the board, not the remote batteries. When every input device fails simultaneously, the board is usually the common failure point.
  • The opener runs the door without being pressed. A short on the board can send phantom start commands. Unplug the opener and call us rather than trying to troubleshoot this one yourself.
  • The wall console works but remotes don’t. This can be the board’s radio receiver section, which sits on the same PCB as the logic circuits on Genie units.
  • The opener worked fine during the day and died overnight. Capacitor failures on logic boards often present as sudden, no-warning shutdowns. Van Nuys heat stresses capacitors during the day, and the failure shows up when the board cools and re-expands overnight.

If you’re seeing none of these but the door is slow or jerky, the problem is more likely mechanical: springs, rollers, or track. That’s a different diagnostic path, and we’ll tell you which one applies rather than selling you a board you don’t need.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Van Nuys, a Genie opener logic board replacement runs $120-$320 installed. The spread covers the difference between a basic AC-motor board on an older chain-drive Genie and the newer DC-motor boards with integrated Aladdin Connect receivers on BeltMax and SilentMax units. Here’s how the price breaks down:

  • Diagnosis: No charge when we do the repair. We test the board, confirm the revision number, and photograph the failed component before quoting anything.
  • Part: OEM Genie board or quality aftermarket equivalent, priced separately and shown to you on the written scope.
  • Labor: Flat rate, not hourly. You know the total before we touch a screw.
  • Warranty: Backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the board fails within a year, we make it right under Clause 4 of The Haven Standard, the same standard that requires us to photograph the failed part before quoting a replacement.

You get a flat, written price and written scope before any work starts, per Clause 1 of The Haven Standard. No “call for a quote” games. The number is on the page and the quote is on paper before the repair begins.

You can safely check the outlet, the breaker, and the opener’s power cord. You can also confirm the symptom pattern: if the wall console and remotes both fail, write that down. If only the remote fails, change the remote battery first and then the wall console battery before blaming the board. Those checks save you a service call if the problem is something simple.

What you shouldn’t do is open the motor housing and swap the board yourself. The logic board carries line voltage on portions of the PCB, the capacitor can hold a charge even after unplugging, and a mismatched revision will fry the replacement board and possibly the motor. We’ve pulled boards in Van Nuys that were held in place by optimism and electrical tape, and the repair bill afterward is always higher than if the owner had called first. Call (213) 418-2520 and we’ll diagnose it properly the first time.
